UK farm management · physical QR tags

Farming is hard enough.
Tag it. Don’t blag it.

AgTag puts the record on the thing itself. The cow. The gate. The feed bin. Scan the object, log the event, see the history — no clipboard, no spreadsheet, no signal needed.

A pencil-sketch portrait of a cow facing the camera, an orange-and-green AgTag fitted to her right ear.
Recent records for Daisy: 1 Day Ago · In Calf · Bull - Sentinel; 4 Days Ago · Yield · 26 L, 3rd lactation; Last Week · Welfare Check · Checked for mastitis; 2 Weeks Ago · Hoof Trim · Front-left overgrown; Last Month · Moved Fields · Meadow → Riverside; Two Months Ago · Annual TB Test · All clear.
A working farm yard sketch — IBC tank, chicken coop, two feed silos and a tractor in the foreground; pig pen, stone farmhouse and open path to the right.

The record lives on the thing itself.

A clipboard lives in the office. A spreadsheet lives on a laptop. A WhatsApp group lives in a chat thread. AgTag lives on the gate, the cow, the food bin.

One tag · three views

Same tag.
Different jobs.

  1. Visitor scans

Sees the information you want to share about your farm — breeds, grazing rotations, architectural history, public gateway warnings, emergency contact.

  2. Staff scans

Sees procedures and forms: a welfare check, a movement, the medicine log. Keep your staff informed and accountable for the farm's daily operations.

  3. Owner scans

Sees the whole picture — event history, inventory movements, staff activities. Track every activity the moment it's logged, for every tag on your farm.

How it works · three steps, no faff

Tag. Scan. Log.

Step 01

Tag it.

Print or order

Generate as many QR tags as you need. Print on paper for the medicine cabinet, the tool shed, the polytunnel. Pre-order rugged tags for the gate, the feeder, the fence post.

No special hardwareNo Special DeviceOne code, many surfaces
Step 02

Scan it.

Any device, any OS

Open the camera, point it at the tag, the right information shows for the right person. Visitor sees public information. Staff sees procedures and forms. Admin sees all the data.

Camera or AgTag appForm follows the roleTwo taps in gloves
Step 03

Log It.

Look it up. Log it in.

Read the history or write the next entry — welfare check, movement, medicine, hours on the tractor. Saved the moment you log, synced the moment you have signal. The history lives on the thing itself.

Multi-user, multi-roleCSV exportRecord stays on the object

Works without signal. Syncs when you’re back online.

The app queues every scan you make in the field. The minute you get back to Wi-Fi or 4G, it automatically syncs. No data lost in the dead spots between the bottom field and the farmhouse.

Rugged Tags · Made to last

Built to withstand the British weather.

Industrial-grade hardware built to live outdoors — wherever farming happens — for at least 4 years. No fading. No peeling. No bullsh*t.

  • Pre-drilled for screws or cable ties
  • High-contrast matte for low-light scans
  • Scratch-, oil- and chemical-resistant
  • Built to last years, not months
Specifications
Technical Data Sheet (TDS) Product Markers
UV Protection Rating

Highly UV-Stabilised (Excellent / Grade 4–5 on Grey Scale). Will not yellow, fade, or get chalky over years of direct sunlight exposure.

Operating Temp Range

−40°C to +100°C continuous exposure limits. Exceeds frost target.Safe at −20°C and won’t sag in direct summer heat.

Heat Deflection Temp

100.2°C (at 1.8 MPa pressure). The plastic holds its exact physical shape even under heavy mechanical pressure.

Charpy Impact Strength

10.3 kJ/m² (ISO 179 Notched Strength). High physical toughness; absorbs hits without shattering or snapping.

Slurry Chemical Resistance

Good (resistant to weak acids, weak alkalis, oils, and grease). Immune to farm manure, high-nitrogen fertilizers, and ammonia wash.

Visual Polish Finish

Professional low-glare matte. Reduces direct sunlight reflections, helping smartphone cameras scan codes cleanly.

Field Performance & Lifespan Guarantee
Expected Structural Lifespan

The raw chemical composition of the Rugged Tag easily lasts over half a decade outdoors without degrading structurally. However, that’s in optimal outdoor conditions — not external farm elements.

4 Year Guarantee

The Rugged Tag is guaranteed for 4 years of standard farm use. Over time, physical dirt, bird droppings, or thick slurry can get rubbed into the layer ridges of the white tracking box, slightly reducing the contrast for smartphone scanners if the tag is not periodically cleaned.

Built on a working farm. For the farm. (NOT BY AI)

Built on a farm.
For the farm.

AgTag was built from scratch by two real people: a working farmer and veterinary surgeon, and a software engineer who grew up on farms in Wales and Maryland.

She spent years building her own enterprise from a handful of sheep into a thriving 100+ acre mixed operation. He spent twenty years engineering software that filled market gaps. Together, they built AgTag because she was sick of rain-soaked clipboards, and he was sick of hearing about it.

The AgTag founders — a farmer and a software engineer — outdoors with their child.

FAQ · What you’ll want to know

What we always get asked

Will the tags work without signal?

Yes. The AgTag app is offline-first. Every scan you make in the field is queued locally and syncs the second you've got Wi-Fi or 4G. The rugged tags themselves don't need power, signal, or batteries — they're QR codes, not radios.

Do I need the rugged tags, or can I just print my own?

Print your own. Free with the subscription. Plenty of farms use printed-and-laminated tags for indoor inventory — the medicine cabinet, the tool shed. The rugged tags are for the bits that live outside: gates, feeders, feed bins, tractor keychains.

How long do rugged tags last?

We design for a minimum of four years on a gate in the British weather. UV-stable, frost-tested to −40°C, slurry-resistant. They don't peel, they don't fade, and they don't snap when something heavy bumps into them. If one fails inside that window from normal farm use, we replace it.

Will my staff actually use it?

The app opens to the right form for the right scan. When staff scan a QR tag, they see a welfare-check form, not a dashboard. Three taps, done. We tested it with people who'd never used a smartphone-based logging tool before — they were faster than the clipboard by the second week.

What about cattle passports and BCMS?

AgTag isn't a replacement for BCMS — those statutory records still go where they always go. But everything you log in AgTag is exportable, so when the inspector wants the medicine register or the movement log, you've got it ready. Direct BCMS sync is on the wishlist — if enough farms want it we'll look at building it.

How does the visitor mode work?

When creating a tag, you can create an info and/or form screen for public view — so while a staff member might get a welfare form or internal information when they scan, someone who isn't logged in will only see what you want them to see — if anything. Most farms put: breed, name, a photo, where the animal came from. It's also useful for liability — "bull in field, dogs on leads" gets seen before the gate gets opened.

What does it actually cost?

One flat monthly price based on the number of active tags on your farm — every feature in every tier, no upsell pricing. Active tags only: scanned, written-to, or assigned in the last 90 days. Smallholder (up to 3 active tags): free. Working farm (4 – 10): £9/m. Commercial (11 – 20): £14/m. Estate (21 – 30): £22/m. Beyond 30 active tags — talk to us.

Print-your-own tags are free at every tier — you cover your own materials. Rugged tags are separate hardware: £9.99 per tag (one-off), plus £4.50 tracked UK shipping.

Can I cancel?

Any time. Stop using it, your data exports out, we delete what you ask us to. No 12-month commitments, no penalty clauses. The same fairness rule that the brand is built on applies to the contract.
